OUR THOUGHTS ON
SOMETHING FROM NOTHING
BY PHOEBE GILMAN:
This story reminds me of my mom and how whenever socks get holes in them, my mom always uses them for cleaning. She puts them on her hand and cleans off dust.
Brian
I can relate to that book cause my grammy is always saving stuff and saying "I might need this someday."
Mary
This book reminds me of my mom because she never throws anything away - like plastic bags and brown paper bags. We always reuse them.
Syd
I remember when we used to throw stamps away with every envelope we got. A few months ago, I saw a cool stamp with a space ship on it. Since then, I've looked and collected stamps. Just like how the boy saved his blanket.
Ian
I think that grandpa sounds like my grandmother. She always tells my sister and I never to throw away things. She has 769 buttons. I counted them at Christmas. Some of the buttons were her mother's mother's buttons.
Matt
I have an aunt who makes her own skirts and she always has scraps left over. So instead of throwing them out, she makes scrunchies.
Devon
My mom reuses things like old shirts, socks, and towels and uses them for rags.
Liz
My grandma is like a master sewer. If she wants to buy something, instead she makes it herself. She has a tin full of buttons and she lets me go through them and look at them. They are really neat. Everything she gives me is made by her.
Maggie
I think this story reminds me of myself because sometimes when there's holes in my socks, I patch them up. Once, I used some of my mom's scraps, sewed them together, and made a blanket. But it didn't have the cotton in the middle.
John
My brother, who is 5 years old, has a blanket that has lots and lots of holes. He leaves it somewhere and it gets ripped.
Alex
Once when my mom had lots of sheets, she took one and made it into a t-shirt for my brother.
Robin
I like how the old man keeps using things over and over. I like how the mice use things over and over.
Eric
I remember how my grandmother used to find a picture of an animal on fabric. She would stuff it and make a stuffed animal for me.
Neil
