Sue Gama's Third Grade
at Wickford Elementary School
North Kingstown, Rhode Island

Mrs. Gama's third grade class adopted a thornless honey locust. It has ribbon-like bark and big seed pods with flat seeds inside. We estimate that it is about 130 years old because it is 127 inches around its trunk.
The tree is located next to the exit of Wickford Elementary School. It is right nest to a busy road. The person who planted this tree used his common sense because the tree is salt and pollution tolerant.
We adopted this tree so that we could make up poems and stories about it and learn more about trees. ------by Elizabeth
Our tree is the thornless honey locust.

The date on the cornerstone in the wall says "1837". You can see the trunk of our tree in the corner above the wall.
