Using PowerPoint
By Jim Hughes, Connie Malinowski and Linda Poulton
PowerPoint is a very powerful and versatile
presentation tool which is part of the Microsoft Office suite of products
and is available for either IBM or Mac platforms. A PowerPoint presentation
can be created on a Mac platform and viewed on an IBM or vice versa,
provided the version that it has been created on is not a newer version
than the one it is being viewed on. PowerPoint also has a utility available
called PowerPoint Viewer which enables read-only versions of presentations
to be opened and viewed on any computer. It can be used effectively
in the classroom for a variety of both teacher and student presentations.
Some possible uses:
Create a presentation that can
be used in classroom learning centers to explain how to do a particular
activity or how to use a particular technology.
Use for presentations or
demonstrations at Open House or Technology Nights (A PowerPoint
presentation can be set to run continuously throughout the evening.)
Use to present new projects,
units, curriculum ideas
Let students use as a tool to
present research projects, reports, oral presentations.
Let students create slide shows
with digital photos, clip art or video clips.
The possibilities are endless!!
