WELCOME TO A SMART PROJECT!

The following project is currently under progress by Rhode Island teachers. Although in some activities, the teachers have borrowed and adapted ideas from other teachers and current programs and sources on the Internet, the work is their own. The activities are displayed here in their original form , unedited as they have submitted them. In most cases, these are ongoing projects. The names, school districts, and email addresses of the authors are included. Please feel free to contact the authors with any suggestions, comments, or even participation.Teaching and learning are cooperative efforts.

THE INTERACTIVE BOSTON COMPUTER MUSEUM TOUR

PROJECT OVERVIEW:

The purpose of this SMART project is to create a project which can be used to enhance and broaden a fifth grade math and science curriculum. This project will use the technology provided by the RIDE training. The overall project will provide internet links or personalized bookmarks that will tie into the math and science curriculum using telecommunications. The children will be able to search around the world via the Internet which give them experiences above and beyond anything the traditional classroom teacher could provide. The children at Veazie Street School will have access to the Internet in their classroom and the computer lab.

This project will provide the children hands-on training in the Boston Computer Museum to develop an understanding of how the internet works through the exhibit The Networked Planet. This detailed project will provide the teacher with an extensive plan to supplement the Computer Museum tour with background resources in math, science, and technology available through he Internet. To prepare our students to meet the technological demands of the 21st Century, this project will stimulate students to use critical thinking skills, while becoming skillful in technology.
