WELCOME TO A SMART PROJECT!

The following project is currently under progress by Rhode Island teachers. Although in some activities, the teachers have borrowed and adapted ideas from other teachers and current programs and sources on the Internet, the work is their own. The activities are displayed here in their original form , unedited as they have submitted them. In most cases, these are ongoing projects. The names, school districts, and email addresses of the authors are included. Please feel free to contact the authors with any suggestions, comments, or even participation.Teaching and learning are cooperative efforts.

SITES TO LOCATE INFORMATION

General Information on Inventions:

Goal:

To use the internet as a research tool.

The Project:

Each group of three must choose an invention to research. You need to find out when it was invented, who invented it and how that invention works. Has this invention changed since it was invented? Jointly prepare a research paper that clearly communicates this information. You must include both electronic and print references. This phase of the project is due December 12, 1995.

Now brainstorm. What would this invention look like in the future? What kind of technology would be needed to make this invention a reality? Does any of this technology already exist? Prepare drawings and plans of your future invention.

Use the information that you obtained during this project to write an "infomercial" for your future invention. Prepare a story board or a script. Your group must "act" out your commerical in class. If you have access to a video camera you may tape your presentation in advance. Your presentation should be no less that five or more than fifteen minutes long. Use your imagination to make it as interesting as possible. Your presentations are scheduled to begin the week of January 15, 1996.
