WELCOME TO A SMART PROJECT!

The following project is currently under progress by Rhode Island teachers. Although in some activities, the teachers have borrowed and adapted ideas from other teachers and current programs and sources on the Internet, the work is their own. The activities are displayed here in their original form , unedited as they have submitted them. In most cases, these are ongoing projects. The names, school districts, and email addresses of the authors are included. Please feel free to contact the authors with any suggestions, comments, or even participation.Teaching and learning are cooperative efforts.

SOME FAVORITE K-6 WEATHER SITES

Overview:

The purpose of this site is to enable students to explore a multitude of information involving many aspects of weather. Math, science, reading, writing, and social studies can be integrated with the topic of weather. The following list of sites bring real world, up-to-date meteorological data into the classroom via the Internet.

Being "scientific" involves being curious, observing, asking how things happen, and learning how to find the answers. Students learn science best and understand scientific ideas better if they are able to investigate and experiment. A necessary background and creative problem-solving activities are necessary to foster critical thinking. The students will also gain confidence in their own ability to solve problems. Furthermore, the students will have additional practice transferring thought processes into writing, computing, and graphing. They will be able to access the local community, as well as the world at large.

By introducing them to this highly technological world, we can invite our children into the wonders of science by capitalizing on their natural curiosity.
