CORE ASSUMPTIONS

This Ph.D. Program attracts those professionals who share the core beliefs that shape the Program's mission:

1.     Effective educational reforms might best be accomplished by

     the enhancement of existing institutions.

2.     The leaders of these reforms should be experienced and reflective professionals who are guided by the history of American education, but not confined by it.

3.     Past and present educational practices must be carefully evaluated, in order to refine some and replace others.

4.     Blueprints for educational improvement and reform should be shaped by previous research on educational theory and practice.  All new programs should be systematically evaluated.
