All About Turtles

Millions of years ago dinosaurs lived here. So did turtles!

Turtles Are Reptiles

Reptiles are cold-blooded

Where are turtles now? …in the ocean …in forests and fields …in freshwater ponds and lakes …in deserts

There are three kinds of turtles…. Land turtles live in forests, fields and deserts. Some are called tortoises.

Sea turtles live in the ocean.

Turtles that live in rivers, lakes and ponds are called freshwater turtles.

All turtles have shells. They have different patterns. The top is called the carapace. The bottom is called the plastron.

Turtles hatch from eggs. Then they crawl to the water as fast as they can!

Some turtles have legs and feet while others have flippers!

Some turtles are so small, they fit in the palm of your hand or on the tip of your finger!

Others are big enough to ride!

Turtles eat many kinds of plants and insects.

They also eat fish, small mammals and sea creatures.

Turtles make great pets. They are easy to care for.
